The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, arrived in Jeddah at the invitation of his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Syrian minister was received at King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah by Walid bin Abdul Karim al-Khuraiji, deputy foreign minister.

According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, in urgent news reported tonight, the Saudi and Syrian sides discussed the necessary steps to achieve a comprehensive political settlement to the Syrian crisis, and they also agreed that aid would reach all regions of Syria.

This is Al-Miqdad’s first visit to Saudi Arabia since the outbreak of the crisis in Syria in 2011.

The Reuters news agency quoted sources – which it described as well-informed – as saying that Syria and Saudi Arabia had agreed to reopen their embassies, after cutting off diplomatic relations more than a decade ago.
