Syria's foreign minister visits Cairo for the first time in 12 years

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad arrived at the head of a delegation to Cairo this morning, Saturday, on a visit to Egypt, the first by a Syrian foreign minister in 12 years, and it is also his first since his appointment to his post, during which he will discuss support for cooperation and recent developments in the region.

Yesterday, Friday, the Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted an official source in the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying, “During the visit – which takes place at the invitation of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry – discussions will be held related to strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and the latest developments in the region will be discussed.” and the world.”

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Damascus on February 27, in the first visit of its kind in more than 10 years.

The official news agency, SANA, said that Shukri arrived at Damascus International Airport on a visit to confirm “solidarity with Syria in facing the repercussions of the earthquake.” He was received at the airport by his Syrian counterpart, Faisal al-Miqdad.

Since the earthquake occurred, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has received many calls, most notably a call from his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for the first time.

Egypt sent aid to the affected areas under the control of the Syrian regime, as it sent 3 planes and two ships.
