Thiruvananthapuram: SYS raised allegations against the government. SYS accused the government of taking measures that ignore gender identity. The government is trying to implement this through the curriculum and the Kutubashree handbook, SYS leader Nasser Faizi Koodatai told News Hour.

At the same time, Education Minister V Sivankutty said that there is no intention to impose gender equality in schools. V Sivankutty said that nowhere it is said that children will be taught together. When a statement was made that boys and girls should not sit next to each other, he responded that what is the problem if children sit together.

But the minister responded to the media that it has never been said that children will be taught together. He added that the Chief Minister himself has clarified this. A position has been taken to start co-education in schools. There is no turning back from it. The Education Minister also stated that PTAs and local bodies should take the decision to make schools mixed.

The proposal to mix boys and girls in the draft Gender Neutrality Curriculum Approach document was dropped yesterday. The title Gender Equality Based Education has been dropped and replaced with Gender Justice Based Education. A change was made in the draft document that was put up for discussion before the public before preparing the approach document for the curriculum. Muslim organizations including Samasta have come out against the government proposal. It is in this situation that the government made a change in the draft document. The Chief Minister himself clarified yesterday that the government does not intend to have the same uniform for boys and girls in schools.
