According to the ministry’s information, the head of the ministry reported in his press conference that, following the Slovak elections, a “patriotic government that undertakes to enforce the national interest and formulates a sovereign policy” was able to be formed in the neighboring country.

And since cooperation is easier between governments formulating sovereign policies and pursuing activities aimed at asserting national interests than in other cases, I think that we are facing a particularly beautiful period and huge opportunities for the future of Hungarian-Slovak relations

– he emphasized.

He then stated that the approaches of the two governments are the same on the most important issues from the point of view of the future of Europe: both sides want peace in Ukraine, they do not see the solution in arms shipments, and they want to order a stop to the waves of illegal immigration.

He announced that one of the main topics of the next period’s discussions will be the strengthening of cooperation against migration and the coordination of national measures. He also touched on the fact that Hungary and Slovakia have the same negative opinion of the European Union’s migration pact.
“In addition, both governments consider it equally important to nurture and respect the national cultural heritage and fundamental values, and we would like the debates about the future of the European Union to be based on common sense,” he said.

Péter Szijjártó believed that

politics is a genre of experience, and the experience is that the cooperation between the two countries was most efficient and effective when Robert Fico was the prime minister in Slovakia.

He recalled the agreement nine years ago, which resulted in such success stories as the Ipoly bridges, the Danube bridge, and infrastructure developments connecting the two sides of the border.

“We are ready to build the cooperation of the coming period on similar foundations, where the goal is for both countries and both nations to benefit from this good cooperation, to coordinate our border developments, to exploit all the opportunities inherent in economic cooperation,” he said. . In this regard, he welcomed the fact that another Ipoly bridge will be handed over at the end of this year and the beginning of next year.

The minister also called it an important connecting link

Both Budapest and Bratislava approach the issue of energy supply on the basis of common sense and not from an ideological point of view.

“Both countries use nuclear energy, and we are not willing to give up on that. We do not accept double standards and negative discrimination against nuclear energy, as it forms an important basis for the energy supply and security of both countries,” he warned.
