Mega attack on the Telekom subsidiary T-Mobile!

Hackers have stolen the data of possibly 37 million customers of the telephone service provider. The digital burglary was uncovered by T-Mobile on January 5, as the US group announced on Friday night.

The investigations were still ongoing, but the data theft seems to have been stopped in the meantime. “There is currently no evidence that the malicious actor was able to penetrate or compromise our systems or network.”

According to T-Mobile, the perpetrators captured basic data such as names, billing addresses or telephone numbers. After all, they did not come across any highly sensitive financial information.

The telephone service provider has not been the target of a hacker attack for the first time. In 2021, data was stolen from an estimated 76.6 million customers. The company then had to pay a $350 million fine and invest another $150 million in improved cyber security.

The current data theft could also Telekom subsidiary cost dearly. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the US industry regulator FCC opened an investigation into the hacker attack. Neither the authority nor T-Mobile could initially be reached for comment. With 110 million customers, the company is number three in the US mobile communications industry.
