The Dorsten regionS table tennis clubs are navigating a season of contrasts, with some teams vying for promotion and others battling to avoid relegation. The halfway point of the season has revealed a diverse landscape of performance across multiple leagues, from senior to junior levels.
During TTV Hervest-Dorsten game days,the St. Ursula high school sports hall buzzes with activity as several teams compete concurrently.
Mixed Fortunes for Local clubs
The balance sheets across local clubs are varied. TTC Lembeck currently finds itself in a relegation zone in the 2nd district league, but a string of close results offers hope for improvement in the second half of the season.Their second team, despite holding the “Red Lantern,” remains within striking distance of safety, just three points from a potential escape from the bottom of the table. A Dorsten club is likely to face relegation from this league, given the proximity of Rhade’s second-place position to Lembeck’s precarious standing. The SSV Rhade’s 15-year-olds are also performing admirably in the 1st district league, achieving a 5-5 record.
TSC Dorsten is enjoying a strong season. Their first team currently sits in second place in the 1st district league with only one defeat, though promotion hinges on winning the league championship. The second team is also in a promotion-relegation spot in the 1st district class, and the third team leads the rankings in the 3rd district class.
Altendorf-Ulfkotte and Hervest-Dorsten Aim High
SV Altendorf-Ulfkotte holds a positive points balance in the 2nd district class, but a notable leap might potentially be needed to contend for the top spot. Their second and third teams, comprised of relatively new players, are gaining momentum with several victories.
TTV hervest-dorsten, the highest-ranked team from Dorsten, is in a commanding position, leading the district league without a single loss and preparing for a potential return to the state league. Their second team is also well-positioned in the strong 1st district league, just three points off the lead. The third team, currently second in the 2nd district league, also harbors promotion aspirations. While the fourth team faces a relegation battle, the fifth and sixth teams are pursuing competitive positions, and the seventh and eighth teams remain cautiously optimistic. Notably, TTV hervest-Dorsten will expand its portfolio to include an eleventh team comprised of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive sports participation.
Youth Development and Upcoming Events
The TTV Hervest-Dorsten’s youth development program is yielding positive results. The youth 19 team is fourth in the 1st district league, the reserves are third in the 2nd district league, and success is often driven by players competing in younger age groups. The boys’ 15 district league is dominated by TTV Hervest-Dorsten, with both their first and second teams performing exceptionally well. the youngest players are also thriving, earning the title of autumn champions. A newly formed all-girls team has also shown promise, losing only four of seven games. Regrettably, the third Youth 15 team had to be withdrawn.
SV Schermbeck is in a tight race for promotion in the Lower Rhine District Oberliga, trailing the league leader by only one point. However,the second,fourth,and fifth teams face challenges in avoiding relegation.
VfB Kirchhellen I is battling relegation in the 2nd district league, currently in ninth place with a 4:14 points record. Their second team is also in a relegation spot in the 1st district class, while the third and fourth teams occupy mid-table positions. the fifth team, however, leads their league, and the youth teams are also showing potential.
Looking ahead,the 2nd Dorsten Primary School Cup will take place on February 9th,expecting around 500 participants. Moreover, the city championship is slated for an upgrade in 2026, promising new highlights and surprises as a collaborative effort among all Dorsten table tennis clubs.
