Impact of China’s Chen Meng’s national team retirement
1st place in women’s doubles – 2nd place in mixed doubles
‘Beep’ Shin Yu-bin (Korean Air) ranked 9th in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) women’s singles world rankings.
Shin Yu-bin recorded 2310 points in the world rankings recently announced by ITTF, taking 9th place, one step higher than before.
The reason behind Shin Yu-bin’s rise in the world rankings is the retirement of Chen Meng (China) from the national team.
Chen Meng, who swept gold medals in the women’s singles and team event at the 2001 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics, withdrew from the national team.
As Chun Meng, who was ranked 4th in women’s singles, was dropped from the world rankings, other players, including Shin Yu-bin, rose one step at a time.
The 1st to 3rd places in the women’s singles world rankings remain unchanged. While Sun Yingsha maintained her first place with 9,900 points, Wang Man-yu and Wang Yidi (both from China) maintained second and third places.
In addition, Shin Yu-bin took first place (3,405 points) along with Jeon Ji-hee in the women’s doubles world rankings. There is a difference of 137 points from 2nd place Satsuki Odo and Sakura Yokoi (3,268 points, Japan).
In addition, in mixed doubles paired with Lim Jong-hoon (Korea Exchange), he ranked second after Wang Chu-qin and Sun Ying-sha.
The men’s singles world rankings showed relatively greater fluctuations than the women’s singles rankings due to the absence of Fan Zhendong and Ma Rong (China).
Woojin Jang (SeAH) ranked 12th, Daeseong Cho (Samsung Life Insurance) ranked 20th, Jaehyun Ahn (Korea Exchange) ranked 24th, and Junseong Oh (Mirae Asset Securities) ranked 27th, all moving up two places.
