In the now famous words of Orson Welles in “The American Classroom”: “Not bad, right? It’s French”, In the first round of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt (Germany), the duel between two proud French representatives of table tennis, Félix Lebrun (17 years old, 9th in the world) and Simon Gauzy (27 years old, 25th in the world), gave rise to a high-level match, ultimately won by the youngest of the Lebrun brothers (7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7).

During this match, an exchange particularly caught the attention of the French Table Tennis Federation, which shared it on social networks. Rightly so: it was a spectacular exchange of 34 blows in total and nearly 30 seconds, almost a rarity in a sport where everything usually goes so quickly, finally won by Gauzy who masterfully defended against Lebrun’s powerful blows.

The Toulouse player quickly found himself forced to play far from the table by the young Montpellier player, very aggressive, but resisted the attacks of his opponent who did not manage to deceive him with his smashes. In the end, it was Lebrun who was pushed into error by Gauzy, who had come back very well.

Winner in the end of this match, Félix Lebrun will be the only Frenchman in the round of 16 in the men’s draw, where he will meet the German world number 14 Dang Qiu, reigning European champion.
