As Isaac grew older, his eyesight began to fail. He said to his eldest son Esau, “Look; I am old. Go to the forest. Hunt and bring me game. Cook delicious food in the way I like and bring it to me. I will eat them. Before I die, I will give you a hearty blessing.”
Isaac’s wife Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau went out to the forest to hunt and bring back game, he said to his son Jacob, “I heard what your father said to your brother Esau. At once go to the herd, and bring from there two good young goats. I will cook them into delicacies in your father’s favorite way. Give them to your father and seek his blessing before he dies.” Mother Rebekah prepared delicious dishes that Isaac loved. Also, Rebekah dressed her younger son Jacob in the best of her older son Esau’s clothes that she had at home with her. He covered his hands and his smooth neck with the skins of the goats. He gave the delicacies and the bread he had baked into the hands of his son Jacob.
Jacob approached his father. He did not recognize him because his hands were as hairy as his brother Esau’s. Jacob smelled the fragrance of Esau’s clothes and mistook him for Esau and blessed Esau. Jacob cheated his father and got Asir.
