The Slovenian reached the finish line in solo glory and won the stage by 39 seconds for Jonas Vingegaard. So he extended his lead in the summary to one minute and 57 seconds down on the Dane.
Vingegaard has won the last two editions of the Tour de France, with Pogacar winning in 2020 and 2021.
Before the stage, Pogacar was leading the climbing competition, tied on points with Norwegian Uno-X profiler Jonas Abrahamsen. The Slovenian led from the top of the uncategorized top climbers, but while also leading the overall competition, Abrahamsen was riding in the dotted jersey.
Pogacar also increased his lead in the climbing competition, but when Vingegaard finished second, he took second place. So Abrahamsen’s time in the polka dot suit is over for now.
Saturday’s stage was the first with a mountain finish in this year’s “Journey”. Pla d’Adet finished the stage, but before that the riders also had to climb the famous Col du Tourmalet and Hourquette d’Ancizan.

After multiple attempts, Uno-X broke through at the end when Magnus Cort joined a group of seven riders. There were also stars like Mathieu van der Poel.
Half a minute behind followed a group of 13 riders including Michal Kwiatkowski and Ben Healy.
Towards the Col du Tourmalet, the break down to the main field had a gap of three minutes and 22 seconds. On the way up the mountain, some riders had to fall and the two groups separated together. At the top, Cort was still leading the group, which included ten riders and was leading by 3.38 minutes.
On the way up the Hourquette d’Ancizan three more riders dropped out, including Cort, but the main field also closed well. At the top, just 1.15 minutes separated the favourites.

Some broke
Up to the final climb towards the finish at Pla d’Adet, Healy pulled away from the rest of the break, slowly but surely being overtaken by his favourites. The UAE sent Adam Yates chasing the Irishman, before Pogacar conceded even with five kilometers to go.
The Slovenian quickly caught up with his team-mate and Healy and found a seven-eighth second gap to Vingegaard.
In addition to the victory, there was also a fight for 45 climbing points on Saturday’s stage. Oier Lazkano was first over the Col du Tourmalet and got 20 points, and David Gaudu was first on the Hourquette d’Ancizan and got five points.
Early in the stage, Arkea rider Amaury Capiot had to throw in the towel due to injuries he sustained during a rollover on Friday’s stage. Up the Col du Tourmalet, Louis Vervaeke from Soudal Quick Step also had to break He was the 21st rider to break this year’s tour.
