“I feel sorry for Hashim, but it was the Olympic final.”

As reported by İdman.biz, this was stated by Korean taekwondo athlete Tae-Joon Park (58 kg), speaking about the fight for Olympic gold with an Azerbaijani athlete.

He admitted that his tactics for the final against Magomedov were aggressive pressure and constant kicks.

“The Azerbaijani’s style mirrors Pak’s: attacking, ambidextrous, full of energy. Both athletes made their Olympic debuts in Paris. The first round began with both fighters immediately going full force, and the Korean opened the scoring. In one episode, after a clash of shins, Magomedov fell to the dayang. The opponents briefly talked during the medical intervention.

“I said, ‘Sorry,’ and Gashim said, ‘No problem, it’s sport,'” Pak told the World Taekwondo website. He added, “I sympathize with Magomedov, but my attention was focused on the fight.”

It should be noted that in the second round, Pak behaved extremely unsportsmanlike, kicking the falling Magomedov in the back.
