Tagesschau craves back – “laid delivery” means “mother” again
In an article on a draft law by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, the Tagesschau spoke of a “participating person” instead of “mother”. The Tagesschau has now corrected this again.

Now she’s crawling back and explains why.
Now a “giving birth” is called “mother” again in the news. On Saturday, the German daily news reported on a draft law by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs. This should provide that after the birth of a child not only the mother but also the second parent gets special holidays. The Tagesschau called it this: “The partner the person giving birth should be released in the future two weeks after the birth.”
The Tagesschau editorial team told Deutsche Bild: “The term was chosen so as not to discriminate against anyone.” When asked “Who exactly?” the newspaper received no reply. Now, however, the Tagesschau crawled back and changed the relevant passage. The mother can now be called “mother” again. The text now says: “Ten working days should be employed partners mother be released after the birth in the future.”
Compared to 20 minutes, the Norddeutsche Rundfunk NDR explains its withdrawal as follows: “Since it has led to misunderstandings, the terms ‘giving birth’ and ‘giving birth’ were replaced by the word ‘mother’ in the text.”
Internet makes fun of expression
On Twitter, midwives allowed themselves a little joke. For example, user Livia Clauss writes: “I think it’s great that as a midwife, as a ‘delivering person’, I will now get ten days of vacation after every birth.”

These two Twitter reactions belong to the more harmless, many users have no understanding for the choice of words of the German daily news.
