“Tagesschau” presenter Susanne Daubner has become an internet hit several times with her fits of laughter and the presentation of the youth word of the year. She is now stopping the latter.
Susanne Daubner has been the presenter of the “Tagesschau” since 1999. However, the journalist only gained particular popularity, especially on social media, last year when she burst into laughter in the middle of the show. The clip went viral. The 63-year-old also presents the youth word of the year every year, delighting countless viewers. But that is now over – Daubner has now announced that she will no longer take on this task in the future. A situation that makes many fans of the “Tagesschau” quite sad.
“Dear community, the decision on the youth word of 2024 is going into the next round,” says Susanne Daubner in a video on the Instagram profile of the “Tagesschau”. “Unfortunately, I will not be taking part this year, I would now like to let others go first,” she then announces and asks the community for suggestions for her successor. She then introduces some candidates for the title of youth word of the year, including “Hölle nein”, “Yolo” and “Aura”.
Many followers expressed their disappointment about the news in the comment section of the post. “Susanne, don’t do that now,” wrote one fan. “No, Susanne, I don’t think so. Please carry on,” reads another comment. “There is no alternative to Ms. Daubner,” also reads. Someone else thinks: “A world in which Ms. Daubner no longer says the youth word of the year is a sad world.”
In addition, the shoe store Deichmann commented: “Okay, suggestion: we’ll stop selling you waterproofing spray and Susanne will carry on. Deal?” The streaming service Spotify also expressed its displeasure: “Jugendwort without Queen Daubner just doesn’t hit the same.”
