1926: Phöbus Film AG will present a cinematic cabaret program in which people will sing and speak. This is the first sound film attempt shown in Germany.
1931: The first mass x-ray examination of students takes place in a school in Richmond Hill on Long Island / USA.
1936: The “Crystal Palace” is destroyed by fire. It was a Victorian-style exhibition building specially built for the first world exhibition in London in 1851. It was originally built in Hyde Park and after the end of the World’s Fair it was moved to Sydenham in the London borough of Lewisham, where it was reopened in an enlarged form in 1854.
1966: The West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard (CDU) declares his resignation.
1966: The British colony of Barbados becomes independent as a parliamentary democracy in the Commonwealth, with Queen Elizabeth II of England as head of state.
1981: In Geneva, the disarmament negotiations between the USA and the Soviet Union begin to limit the number of medium-range nuclear weapons in Europe.
1996: The Ukrainian Klitschko brothers write boxing history in Vienna: Vitali wins against Frantisek Sumina, Wladimir defeats Exum Speight, both with a technical knockout
2006: Pope Benedict XVI and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I sign a joint declaration in Istanbul for further rapprochement between Catholic and Orthodox Christians.
2011: 535 days after the parliamentary elections in Belgium, an agreement was reached to form a government. The social democrat Elio di Rupo will be the new prime minister. It is the longest government formation in the world to date.
2016: Richard Lugner’s fifth marriage is history. The builder and his former wife Cathy are divorced at the Fünfhaus District Court. The ties between the bustling 84-year-old builder and the former Playboy model (26) lasted just two years.
