Taiwan has detected 15 aircraft and 9 ships of the People’s Liberation Army Navy approaching the island.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was stated in a message from the island’s military department, posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“As of 06:00 today, 15 PLA aircraft and 9 ships have been detected in the Taiwan area,” the statement said.
The department claims that 14 aircraft crossed the so-called median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the northern and southwestern parts of the island’s air defense zone. Taiwan’s military took retaliatory measures, the department clarified.
The Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone was declared unilaterally by the island. It covers the waters around the island, the Taiwan Strait, and part of the airspace over three provinces of mainland China – Fujian, Jiangxi and Zhejiang. Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after losing the Chinese Civil War. Since then, the island has retained the flag and some other attributes of the former Republic of China, which existed on the mainland before the communists came to power. Beijing considers Taiwan one of the provinces of the PRC.
