Taiwan’s independence is a dead-end street, and the US’s insistence on supporting it by force will inevitably harm them and they will have to bear the consequences of their actions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jien said at a press conference on Monday, commenting on the announcement the day before of White House $567 million package to support Taiwan defense.

“Another arms supply by the US to Taiwan seriously violates the ‘one China’ principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US communiques. The move of the US is actually to support and encourage Lai Qingdu and the authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party in their persistent pursuit of Taiwan’s independence and their provocations against the “one China” principle, Lin emphasized.

“The biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the most significant damage to the status quo comes from the separatist actions of pro-Taiwan independence forces and the complicity and support they receive from outside powers, led by the US,” the spokesman said.

“We call on the US side to abide by the ‘one China’ principle and the three Sino-US communiqués and stop arming Taiwan in any way. No matter how many weapons the US provides to Taiwan, it will not shake our firm determination to oppose of the island’s independence and to protect China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Lin Jian added.
