Taiwan’s armed forces plan to test a new modification of the anti-aircraft missile system during live-fire exercises this week. This was reported by the newspaper “Ziyu Shibao” with reference to sources in the island’s armed forces, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
The new modification “Lujian-2” is a mobile launcher on a wheeled chassis with TC-2 (“Tianjian-2”) missiles. The tests will take place at the military training ground of the Zhongshan Jiupeng Institute of Science and Technology. As the publication’s interlocutor noted, a total of three TC-2 missiles will be launched during the exercises.
As the publication notes, the first air defense systems of the new modification began to be transferred to the ground forces of Taiwan in May last year. Their range is about 15 km. The new systems can be used to destroy airplanes, helicopters, drones, as well as cruise missiles and other air targets.
Also during the exercise, helicopters from the 601st and 602nd Army Aviation Brigades will launch AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles. In addition, the Taiwanese-developed LT-2000 (Leiting-2000) multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and the Avenger air defense system will be used in the shooting. According to the publication, the MLRS will use projectiles with a range of 15, 30 and 45 km.
Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after being defeated in the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan one of the provinces of the People’s Republic of China.
