/ The Tajik national team eliminated its Emirati counterpart from the Asian Championship after winning on penalties 5-3 in the second match of the round of 16 of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup final, which is currently taking place in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The match was held at Ahmed Bin Ali World Cup Stadium at 7 pm, under the management of Japanese international referee Yusuke Araki.
The first half ended with Tajikistan leading the UAE by one goal to none. The goal came in the 30th minute of the match by Vahdat Hanonov.
The UAE team was unable to score the equaliser in the second half despite numerous attempts until the end of regular time, but the Emiratis were able to score the fatal equaliser in stoppage time at minute 90+5, through player Khalifa Al Hammadi, and the match ended in regular time with a positive tie with one goal for both teams, and went to extra time and ended with the same result, and then the result was decided by penalty kicks for Tajikistan.
With this result, the UAE team became the second team to bid farewell to the tournament, while the Tajik team qualified for the quarter-finals, along with the Australian team, which had defeated the Indonesian team 4-0 today in the opening matches of the round of 16 of the Asian Football Cup.
