Should we expect good deals during the next French Days? This promotional period, which runs from Wednesday May 4 to Monday May 9, was created in 2018 by six French e-tailers (Boulanger, Cdiscount, Fnac Darty, la Redoute, Rue du Commerce and Showroomprive.com) to counter Black Friday and Amazon. Since then, about a hundred brands, from different universes, have taken part, offering (more or less) interesting promotions on household appliances, barbecues, bicycles, etc.
For this edition, Carrefour has already opened the ball with -50% on a semi-professional Tefal fryer or an HP laptop at 699 euros (against 899 euros). “The most watched categories are, as always, high-tech products or household appliances: smartphones, TVs, vacuum cleaners…” reports Anna Perret, public relations manager at the online comparator Idealo.
Among the products that generate the most expectation, we find the PlayStation 5, the AirPods Pro and the iPhone 13 in the lead. But to find good deals on these items, you will have to be lucky! “The French risk being disappointed. The context of shortages of electronic components and supply problems are weighing on prices,” she warns. During the winter sales, the prices of smartphones or TVs had thus only fallen by 1%, and that of game consoles had even… increased by 30%! “For the French Days, you shouldn’t expect big reductions, either on old models or during a flash sale, for example,” confirms Anna Perret.
Edge cutters, swimming pool robots, playgrounds…
The French are also very attentive to garden products. Requests in recent weeks have thus exploded for… edge trimmers (+ 114%), pool robots (+ 107%), playgrounds and swings (+ 95%), barbecues (+ 93%). “We see that consumers are preparing for the summer season,” she says. And they are right because it is surely in this sector that they will unearth the best deals. “Since January, the prices have been rather stable on these categories, a sign of a normal supply, the promotions should be interesting”, we report at Idealo.
Finally, consumers are also taking a close interest this year in… Lego, especially those intended for adults (like the box with the sunflowers), which are among the top 20 most searched products on Idealo. “Since the confinements, it has worked very well, she says, whereas usually, these are more articles that interest during Black Friday, to offer them at Christmas. »
