The National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) has reported that, as of September 30, it has managed more than 50,000 refunds of balances in favor of Colombian taxpayers, reaching an amount close to $22.1 billion. This figure reflects the entity’s commitment to facilitating compliance with tax obligations and offering economic support to citizens.

In order to optimize the refund request process, Dian has implemented an automatic service that allows taxpayers to request the immediate return of their credit balance. Alternatively, they also have the option of leaving the balance for the next tax period or using it to offset other tax obligations. This measure seeks to simplify procedures and make the returns system more accessible.
The deadlines established for the management of these requests vary depending on the type of return. For those classified as automatic, the period is 15 days. In the event that the taxpayer presents guarantees in favor of the Nation, the response time is extended to 20 days. In other scenarios, Dian will have up to 50 days to carry out the return, ensuring that each case is managed with due attention.
