HOUSTON, November 3, 2023 — Jury selection is set to begin November 5th in the trial of Patrick Xavier Clark, the man accused in the shooting death of Kirsnick Khari Ball, known professionally as Takeoff of the Migos, a case that has gripped the hip-hop world and sparked a renewed focus on gun violence.
The Case Against Patrick Clark
Prosecutors are building their case on surveillance footage and fingerprint evidence, while the defense intends to argue self-defense.
According to reports, Clark’s trial will officially commence November 9th. His attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, confirmed the jury selection date. Takeoff was fatally shot in the early morning hours of November 1, 2022, during a private event at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston. The rapper was 28 years old.
Authorities stated the shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m. following a dispute during a dice game that involved Quavo — Takeoff’s uncle and fellow Migos member. Videos circulating online showed Quavo walking away before the gunfire. Investigators confirmed Takeoff was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were also shot and survived after being transported to hospitals.
Prosecutors allege surveillance footage depicts Clark pointing and firing a gun toward a group of people. Investigators also claim Clark’s fingerprints were found on a wine bottle at the scene.
Quinones-Hollins has maintained Clark’s innocence, stating, “He maintains his innocence. We do believe that he has a valid self-defense claim. I don’t think they can say with any degree of certainty that it was Patrick who actually fired the shot that took Takeoff’s life.” She has also argued that Clark was not involved in the initial argument and was attempting to leave when the shooting began.
Honoring Takeoff’s Legacy: The Rocket Foundation
In the wake of the tragedy, Quavo launched The Rocket Foundation in 2022, dedicated to addressing gun violence in underserved communities.
The nonprofit is committed to investing in evidence-based community violence intervention programs, aiming to reduce shootings, support community care, and transform Takeoff’s death into lasting change, beginning in Atlanta, the birthplace of Migos.
