According to a statement published Saturday night by Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban government, new buildings built from that day on will not be able to have windows through which one can see “the courtyard, the kitchen, the common wells and other places that women usually use.”
“Seeing women working in kitchens, patios or drawing water from a well can lead to obscene acts,” continues the document distributed by Mujahid on the social network X, written partly in Arabic, Dari and Pashto.
City councils and other competent authorities will have to monitor the works to ensure that it is not possible to see their neighbors’ homes, the statement describes.
In the event that there are already windows, the Taliban invite owners to build a wall or obstruct views, to “avoid causing inconvenience to neighbors,” according to the decree.
The Taliban have expelled women from public places since their return in 2021.
