It’s a tough time for Boma in Afghanistan’s clothing stores. It was only after the Taliban came to power that hard times began for the bommies that were placed in clothing stores to attract people. The Taliban took action by saying that the bommas dressed in women’s and men’s clothes and displayed in clothing stores were replicas of idols forbidden by Islam. The Taliban initially instructed the traders to cut off the heads of the bombs. However, following the complaints of traders that such conditions are affecting business badly in Afghanistan, where the economic crisis is raging, the Taliban has changed its position to hide the face of the bombs. Following this, the AP news agency reported that all the clothing stores had bombs with their faces disguised in different ways.

According to the report, Afghan traders protect the faces of their bombs from the Taliban by using cloth face coverings, sack masks and aluminum foil face coverings. The report was prepared by the AP news agency after speaking to traders on the Lyceum Maryam street in northern Kabul, which is lined with clothing shops. The shops here are full of masked bommas. Some people use a mask that is the same color as their clothes. Others use attractive aluminum foil. Shopkeepers say that sacks were originally used to cover the face but are no longer used as it makes shop fronts unattractive.

The law was first tightened in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat after the Taliban came to power. The Taliban had demanded that the clothing shop owners here remove the heads of the women’s bommies displayed in their shops. The special ministry for Islamic Affairs had issued the directive. At that time, the Taliban local element said that looking at women’s bommahs placed in shops was a violation of Islamic Sharia laws. Islamic injunctions are not to look at other women. The Taliban stated in the order that watching the Boma is a violation of these laws. It was only after this that the traders informed the Taliban about the difficulties and the Taliban clarified that it is enough to hide their faces.

Soon after the Taliban came to power, a special ministry for the implementation of religious affairs was established. The Ministry of Women’s Welfare has been shut down and replaced by a new Ministry. Although the ministry’s intention is to take a strict stance on moral issues, the new ministry’s main concern is to remove the rights enjoyed by women and make them second-class citizens. This ministry enacted many laws such as excluding women from work, taking away women’s right to education, and prohibiting women from traveling long distances unaccompanied by men.
