From November 25 to December 11, 2023, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), through the Human Rights Unit, carried out the second edition of the “Cycle of Activities in favor of Human Rights: Talking about Human Rights magnifies the IMSS”, with the purpose of contributing to the guarantee of the exercise of the right to health and social security by the entitled population and users.

These activities were part of the commemoration of four international days: November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; December 1, World AIDS Day; December 3, International Day of People with Disabilities; and December 10, Human Rights Day.

The pilot program beganSafe Space for Listening, Containment and Guidance, ECO”. With this program, Social Security is positioned as a pioneer in the way of addressing cases of violence in the Administration
Federal Public.

Se Four Breastfeeding Rooms were inaugurated as a result of the collaborative work of several administrative units, thinking about the women who return to work at the end of their maternity leave and the difficulties they face.

During the session of Human Rights Committee the launch of the competency standard “Implementation of training courses on health/social security with a Human Rights approach”aimed at people who provide training and education at the Mexican Social Security Institute.

It was also signed Letter of Intent between the IMSS and the United Nations Population Fund in Mexico (UNFPA)in matters of sexual and reproductive health.

The Human Rights Unit presented the Institutional Policy on the subject, which contains general guidelines, specific strategies and inter-institutional coordination mechanisms to articulate preventive strategies.

Discussions were held on topics such as the right to live free of violence in work environments, learning about Convention 190 and the concept of “world of work.”

They talked about invisible disabilities, linguistic rights, and exchanged opinions about stigma and discrimination against the LGBTTTIQ+ community.

As a result of the La Más Preventiva contest, for the first time there was an ambassador for HIV prevention. The cycle also made it possible to make visible and measure the relevance of the recognition of rights.

Placing the person at the center and exalting their dignity enhances the Mexican Social Security Institute family.

Social security is a collective good that we must maintain, improve and protect.
