President Lula (PT) stated that it is necessary to “talk to those who don’t like us” when commenting on the tensions in the National Congress for the approval of the government’s structural provisional measures, concluded yesterday within the time limit.

What happened?

Lula said that the government was at risk and asked for recognition of the “effort to govern”: “Yesterday, we ran the risk of not having approved the system of government organization that we created, and then you don’t have to look for a friend, you have to talk to those who don’t like us, with those who didn’t vote for us”, he said.

Even so, he said he was “more optimistic” than in the first term: “It’s an effort, but I can say that, at 77 years old, I’m more optimistic than I was in my first term.”

The president participated in the inauguration of a new building at the Federal University of ABC, in São Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC region of São Paulo.

The entire left has a maximum of 136 votes, if no one is absent. To vote for a simple thing, we need 257. To approve a constitutional amendment, it’s even bigger. So it’s important that they know the effort to govern. It’s not just winning an election, you win the election and then you have to spend the whole time talking to get something approved.”

MP from Ministries passed the time limit

The political articulation of the federal government was openly criticized by the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who negotiated until the last moment directly with Lula for the approval of MPs from the Ministries, Bolsa Família, among others.

The plenary of the Federal Senate approved the text with 51 votes in favor and 19 against hours before the MP expired.

The previous vote in the Chamber of Deputies took place after the government negotiated with the deputies and gave in. The PT management authorized on Tuesday (30) R$ 1.7 billion in parliamentary amendmentsamid the risk of the president suffering the biggest defeat in Congress this term.

There were defeats in the Environment and Indigenous Peoples portfolios. The approved MPs were still modified in the Chamber, and the alterations dehydrated the performance of the ministers Marina Silva and Sônia Guajajara in their respective portfolios.
