The French Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Development, La Francophonie and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou has been staying in Benin since Wednesday March 29, 2023. With her delegation, she was received in audience by the President of the Republic, Patrice Talon this Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Palais de la Marina.

The hearing was held in the presence of a delegation of Beninese authorities including the Minister of State for the Economy and Finance, Romuald Wadagni and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Aurélien Agbenonci. Indeed, the Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs presented the status of the follow-up to the commitments made by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Benin on July 27 and 28, 2022. These commitments had focused on the revitalization of cooperation between Benin and France in terms of culture, tourism and technical and vocational training. The discussions during this audience mark the new vision of the partnership between France and African countries defended by President Macron. A vision centered on youth, innovation and culture. In the field of cultural cooperation, Benin and France have reached an agreement to implement the project: the Cultural and Creative District of Cotonou which should also house the new Franco-Beninese Institute. With regard to technical and vocational training, France is working to support Benin in the construction of agricultural technical high schools, as well as within the framework of the project for the generalization of agricultural education. The issue of youth employment was raised and many other projects currently underway in the capital of Benin, in particular the “Project Porto-Novo green city” of the French Development Agency which takes into account the rehabilitation of Voodoo and lagoon banks. Seizing this opportunity for Secretary of State Zacharopoulou returned to the partnership between Sèmè-City and major French universities. Also to the credit of the cooperation between the two countries. For his part, President Patrice Talon highlighted the security issue in the Gulf of Guinea countries. The two personalities made an assessment of the situation. In this respect, France supports Benin in terms of information exchange, training and equipment.
