The Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Stalin has approved an emergency law to ban online gambling games including online rummy in Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu said that the Emergency Act will be implemented soon after getting the Governor’s approval.

The High Court struck down the law banning online rummy passed in the last AIADMK regime. Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu government has drafted a bill to bring a new law after hearing the opinions of experts and the public.

This matter was discussed in the cabinet meeting held on August 29 and it was reported that an emergency law is going to be brought.

In this case, the Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting was held yesterday morning under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Stalin. Ministers including Duraimurugan, Chief Secretary Thaoyanbu, Home Secretary Panindra Reddy and Public Sector Secretary Jagannathan participated in this. Cabinet meeting has approved an emergency law to ban online gambling games including online rummy.

A press release issued by Home Secretary Panindra Reddy said:

As announced by Chief Minister Stalin on June 10 in the Legislative Assembly, a committee headed by former High Court judge K. Chanduru was formed to advise the government on enacting a new law to prevent online gambling. The committee submitted its report to the Chief Minister on June 27.

Then, based on the survey conducted by the school education department about the impact of online games on the students, the comments received from the public through e-mails, and the consultation meeting conducted with the opinion sharers, a draft law was prepared with the advice of the legal department and it was presented in the cabinet meeting held on August 28. . As stated then, the Ordinance in full form, which has been further polished, refined and prepared, has now been tabled in the Cabinet meeting and approved. Governor’s approval for this will be announced soon.
