Supreme Court adjourns Minister Senthil Balaji’s bail plea hearing to November 28

Delhi: The legal troubles for former Tamil Nadu Minister of Electricity, Prohibition and Public Works, Senthil Balaji, continue as the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of his bail plea to November 28.

It all started when the Enforcement Directorate searched various places including the house and office of Senthil Balaji last year. Following this, Minister Senthil Balaji was arrested in connection with the case of Prohibition of Illegal Money Transactions Act. He was immediately admitted to the hospital for chest pain and underwent bypass surgery. After the treatment, he was lodged in Puzhal Jail, Chennai.

A case was filed in the Madras High Court seeking bail on behalf of Senthil Balaji, stating that his physical condition was not good. However, the Madras High Court dismissed the petition on October 19. An appeal was made to the Supreme Court against this decision.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Anirudha Bose and Bela M Trivedi heard the petition on October 30 and adjourned the hearing to November 20. Minister Senthil Balaji, who was in jail, was admitted to the hospital for treatment and various tests were done. On November 20, the bail plea of Minister Senthil Balaji came up for hearing again in the Supreme Court before the same bench of justices.

Mukul Rogatki, who appeared on behalf of Minister Senthil Balaji, argued that bail should be granted due to his deteriorating health. However, the enforcement side expressed concerns that Minister Senthil Balaji might use his powers to destroy evidence if bail is granted, and reported that his condition remains the same.

Following this, the judges ordered the submission of the current medical examination report on behalf of Minister Senthil Balaji and adjourned the case hearing to November 28.

The legal battle surrounding the former minister’s bail plea continues, and the Supreme Court will hear the case again later this month. Stay tuned for further updates.
