Chennai: Tamil Nadu student Amrit Mel, who received a gold medal from the Prime Minister, has said that she wants to join the army and serve the country after her college studies.

124 National Army students from Tamil Nadu participated in the recent Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. Amritmel, a student of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women from Coimbatore, who performed well among them, won the gold medal. Prime Minister Modi felicitated him by awarding him a medal.

In the air force category, Manjushree, a student of Stella Mary’s College from Chennai, won the bronze medal. Deputy Director General Atul Kumar Rastogi of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Region of the National Students’ Union invited them to the NCC head office yesterday and felicitated them.

Amrit Mel, a student, said about winning gold in the army category:

We trained for over two months to participate in the Republic Day parade; It has paid off. When the Prime Minister received the medal, it was a great joy. My dream came true. The college administration and parents were supportive. After completing higher education, I want to join the army and serve the country. This is what he said.

Manjushree, who won bronze in the air force category, said:

Among the students from all over the country, it is a pleasure to be ranked third. Thanks to my parents and coaches for helping me succeed. The days spent in NCC were more than the days spent in college. After education I want to join army and serve country. This is what he said.
