The Vijay People’s Movement has recorded some notable victories in the recent urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu.
Is the Vijay People’s Movement moving from fan forums to city halls? How is this possible? What did the Vijay People’s Movement do?
According to the results released so far, Parvez has contested in the 4th ward of Pudukottai municipality, Mohan Raj has contested in the 3rd ward of Walajapet municipality in Ranipettai district, Velmurugan has contested in Kumarapalayam municipality of Namakkal district, V. Manaka has contested in the 15th ward of Poovalur municipality in Trichy district and has won 21 seats in Villupuram district. Gauss has won.
Also, the Vijay People’s Movement has overtaken the AIADMK in one ward in Chennai and secured the second position.
While the entry of actors into politics has been a long-standing debate, the success of the gradual Vijay People’s Movement is remarkable. It’s not going to get attention if only the fans are banging on. However, the background plan is that the search has linked various independent candidates.
In this connection, we contacted Mohammad Parvez, the winner of the 4th Ward of Pudukkottai Municipality. He said, “I am the Pudukottai and Sivagangai district leaders of the Vijay People’s Movement. We should have contested in the name of the Vijay People’s Movement. We did not even get the symbol. That is why we contested independently.”
“The nomination has been well received by the people since it was filed. In other words, I believed I would win. That was very welcome, “said David Cook, chief of The Christian Science Monitor’s Washington bureau.
When the DMK, AIADMK, Naam Tamil and BJP candidates were in the fray, when asked how this victory was possible, he said, “It was because of the series of campaigns. Initially, I thought it was enough to go to the polls once or twice, but I went to the polls about 30 times again. Again. I went every day and it was rare for other parties to go back to the area they once visited. ”
“I have selected and sent many people from my district to go there. More results are yet to come. We look forward to it,” he said.
Within Chennai Corporation:
Thurairaj, a 22-year-old student in the 136th ward of Chennai Corporation, has won the election on behalf of the DMK. It is noteworthy that all the three successful girls in Tamil Nadu are 22 years old.
In that respect, the 22-year-old winning ward member is the most notable candidate. But intellectual Vijay, who came second in the same ward, is an independent candidate from the People’s Movement.
AIADMK candidate Lakshmi Govindasamy is expected to be a fierce rival to Nilavarasi Thurairaj. But Lakshmi Thurairaj polled just 1137 votes in the election results.
Next to the queen with 7122 votes was the Independent candidate intellectual from the Vijay People’s Movement. The number of votes he received was 5112.
The background of the intellectual is different:
Wisdom’s husband Gunasekara won the AIADMK election in 2011 and is already in charge of this ward councilor. She later withdrew from the AIADMK and decided to contest as an independent.
Speaking to BBC Tamil, the intellectual said, “My husband was already a member of this ward. He is well aware of the problems of this ward. But this time I contested because my husband could not compete.”
We asked why Vijay stood independently with the support of the people’s movement and not directly, without getting seats from other parties.
“We are not going”
The intellectual replied, “We stood independently. Then the Vijay people’s movement contacted us and said they would support us. They came looking for us and expressed their support. We agreed.”
She added, “This vote count was possible only because of the political influence of my husband and the votes of Vijay fans. We were able to feel the increased reception after Vijay joined the people’s movement.”
The Vijay People’s Movement has also done the job of selecting and supporting certain of the independent candidates, let alone fielding fans as candidates.
