Palladam: The state highway from Palladam via Tarapuram to Madurai is a busy road.

This two-lane road was planned to be upgraded to four-lane. Accordingly, approval was obtained for the expansion of the 43 km tunnel and the work started last year. In the first phase, the expansion from Lallipalayam to Mettukada has been completed.

Officials of the Highways Department said, “Palladam-Kallipalayam, 11.8 km, will be expanded into a four-lane road up to Duram. This road, which is already 7 m, will be widened to 16.2 m at a cost of 115 crore rupees.

A four-lane highway is to be built with 12 minor bridges and central barriers, including the PAP, Vaikal Bridge. While the expansion work has already started, it is planned to be completed within a year.
