Melwar: The public is affected by the closure of the bus stand which was in use instead of bringing the temporary bus stand to use in Melwar.

Melwar is the headquarters of 84 villages of this district. A bus stand was built here in 1965. A fund of Rs 6.60 crore has been allocated for setting up modern facilities. Even after 17 days, the work has not started.

Social activist Manawalan said:

As it will take a year to complete the construction of the bus stand, the municipal authorities have constructed a temporary bus stand on Alagharkoil Road. There are no shelters, drinking water and toilet facilities here. The entrance gate of the bus stand, which was in use, was hurriedly fixed with a tin door and locked. Work has not started yet. Due to lack of proper planning by the authorities, the people are suffering from drying out in the sun and getting wet in the rain. The municipal administration should establish basic facilities immediately, he said.

The municipal administration said, “As the place belongs to the charity department, the basic facilities will be provided once the rent is fixed.
