Erode: Voting started at 7 am today (February 27) in Erode East assembly constituency where the by-election was announced. 74.79 percent voting took place as of 6 pm.

The by-election was announced due to the death of Erode East Assembly Constituency, Congress MLA, Mr. EV Ra. Nominations started on 31st of last month; It was completed on the 7th of this month.

Congress – Elangovan; ADMK, – South; Naam Tamilar Party – Maneka; DMDK, including Anand, has 77 candidates in the fray. Even though the DMK is contesting on behalf of the Congress, the DMK has directly entered the field with the desire to win this election by a huge margin.

Even before the announcement of the candidate by the Congress party, the DMK started the election work. Thus, the election field turned into a contest between DMK and ADMK.

On behalf of DMK, ministers, MPs, MLAs, district secretaries and administrators camped in the constituency for a month and observed the election work. Each minister was allotted polling stations.

The people of the constituency were showered with cash and gifts by the ministers and their supporters. They ‘supplied’ everything like groceries, vegetables, mutton and chicken for the households. In this election, as a new ‘formula’, people were made to sit in one place from morning to night under the name of Panim Manai, and were given three meals and 500 rupees in cash.

Opposition leader Palaniswami supported the ADMK candidate; Chief Minister Stalin, Kanimozhi, Udayanidhi, Tamil Nadu Congress President Alagiri and alliance party leaders supported the Congress candidate.

Supporting the Naam Tamilar Party candidate, party coordinator Seeman; Premalatha, her son Vijaya Prabhakaran and brother Sutheesh campaigned in support of DMDK candidate.

Security arrangement

The month-long campaign ended at 6:00 pm yesterday. Voting will be held from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM today. The Election Commission has made all arrangements for polling. In total, 1.11 lakh males in 238 polling booths; 1.16 lakh women; 25 Total 2 lakh 27 thousand 547 voters of third gender have been facilitated to vote.

‘Candidates can set up office at a distance of 200 meters from the polling station. There should be only two of them. The Election Commission has ordered that ‘unnecessary meetings should not be allowed’.

Necessary security arrangements have also been made for the peaceful conduct of the election. It has been reported that 74.79 percent voting took place as of evening due to heavy cash rain.
