Thiruvallur District, next to Poontamalli is Tirumazhisai Municipality. A suburban bus stand is being constructed at a cost of 336 crore rupees in Kuthambakkam area near this municipality which is full of temples and industries.
As a result, the value of land in the region is increasing significantly. In this area, a private real estate company has constructed 850 housing plots on 60 acres. For this, many types of land belonging to the municipality like paddy fields, paddies, puddles, cart paths and groves have been encroached upon.
Thus, R. Rajesh, a member of the Ninth Ward of the Municipal Corporation, has filed a complaint with the Executive Officer of the Municipal Corporation regarding the encroachment of government lands. In that petition, he requested that ‘the lands belonging to the municipality should be identified and a fence should be erected around them’.
Ward members allege that the authorities are showing negligence despite petitioning twice in this regard, without taking any action.
Thus, the ward members informed that up to 10 acres of land belonging to the municipality has been encroached upon by a private company and its value will be at least 10 crore rupees.
In a further atrocity, residents alleged that a water catchment area in the area was being covered with sand. Therefore, the people of Thirumazhisa expect that the district administration should investigate the municipality and take appropriate action to recover the government land.
Municipal Executive Officer Mala said:
A complaint has been received that a private real estate company named RWT has encroached on the lands in the ninth ward area of Thirumazhisai Municipality.
Appropriate action will be taken after consultation with the Poontamalli Tahsildar and through the authorities the land will be measured. Also, it was reported that a pond in the area has been filled with sand and is currently being closed.
When they went and inspected it and inquired with the concerned real estate company, they said that the place belongs to them. However, appropriate action will be taken after conducting an inquiry in consultation with the Revenue Department.
This is what he said.
