Tamil News | GST, What Causes Confusion Says Agri-Food Industry Trade Association

Madurai- Before finalizing the working methods to be followed by the officials under the GST tax law, they should consult with the business sector, said Rathinavel, President of the Agri-Food Industry Trade Association in Madurai.

He said:

More than Rs.1.5 lakh crore per month is collected as GST, tax alone. The role of industry in running the central and state governments is high. The reason for so much confusion is that the business sector, which plays an important role in GST and tax implementation, has not been consulted at any time.

Goods should be taxed on chapter basis only. The Numerical List of Articles comprises 21 sections and 99 chapters under which 1244 headings and 5224 sub-headings are given.

This is the reason for the total confusion. If GST is fixed as single tax for goods under respective chapters on the basis of 99 chapters, tax confusion will be eliminated.

There should be a review of tax rates and their practices.

We therefore welcome the Central Government’s decision to finalize the ‘standard procedures’ to be followed by examining officers before setting up an ‘Appellate Tribunal’ under the GST Act. He said that businessmen should also be involved.
