The hill dwellers have demanded that the houses built by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board should be handed over to the hill dwellers as soon as possible.

Moongilmaikuttai belongs to the 11th ward under Alandara municipality. There are 73 families living in this village.

In this village, due to the damage of the houses inhabited by the hill dwellers, in 2020, the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board started the construction of 64 duplex houses at an estimated cost of Rs. 5 crore 50 lakhs.

For these works, the houses inhabited by the hill people were demolished and nearby, temporary houses were constructed and the hill people are living there. The construction of the prefabricated houses was completed 5 months ago.

In this regard, the hill dwellers from Moonkilmaitaikuttai said that we, 73 families, have been living here for more than 40 years. Out of the 64 sets of houses built here, 50 houses have been allotted to us and the remaining 14 houses to other communities. In this area, more than 10 hill people did not get houses because the houses were not allotted to the hill people who were living there.

Houses have been allocated here for other communities who already have houses. The culture of other communities and our culture are completely different. Due to this, if other communities come here, resentment is likely to arise. All houses should be provided to our community.

The Collector should take action to hand over these 64 sets of houses to the hill dwellers as soon as possible. They said that no action has been taken even after submitting a petition to him.
