New Delhi: The central government has assured the Supreme Court that the bill to protect the personal information of social media users will be tabled in the monsoon session of Parliament starting in July.

A five-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court is investigating the case related to the protection of personal information of social media users.

The case was decided by Judge K.M. It came up for hearing again yesterday in the session chaired by Joseph. At that time Attorney General R. Venkatramani, appearing on behalf of the Central Government argued that:

A bill to protect the personal information of users of social networking sites has been finalized. The central government is planning to table this in the monsoon session of the Parliament starting next July. Until then no order should be issued, he argued.

Subsequently, the session said:

The government has informed that the bill will be tabled in the monsoon session of the Parliament. If it passes and becomes law, many of the questions raised in this case will be answered. Justice K.M. Joseph will retire this coming June, 11th.

Therefore, this case will be sent to the Chief Justice to be transferred to another session.
