Kudalur: The forest department has temporarily stopped the construction of an anti-poaching camp due to public protests in Kudalur Ovali Green Nagar area.

In order to prevent human-elephant conflict in Kudalur Oveli area, the forest department has decided to set up permanent anti-poaching camps at Oveli Vattaparai, Soondimalai, Periya Cholai, Nayakkanbadi, Barwood and engage in 24-hour monitoring. Action was taken accordingly.

In the first phase, the work of leveling the area with the Bokline machine was started yesterday morning to set up an anti-poaching camp in Periyacholai Green Town area. The people of the area stopped the work and said, ‘No poaching camp should be set up next to the residence; In this area, survey work should be carried out again and hunting prevention camps should be set up in the forest area, avoiding the inhabited areas,’ they insisted.

There was no solution in the talks held by foresters Suresh Kumar and Veeramani to the people. Due to this, the forest department stopped the work temporarily.

The forest department said, ‘People should cooperate with an action taken by the forest department to prevent the damage caused by wild elephants. Only then, human-animal problems will be solved,’ they said.
