Chennai: Cooperatives and Food Department Secretary Radhakrishnan has urged the Central Food Department to procure small grains through the Food Corporation of India for distribution in Tamil Nadu ration shops.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to provide the poor people with all the nutrients they need in the ration shops.

In the first phase, in Nilgiris and Dharmapuri districts, 2 kg of kelvarak is provided free of cost per cardholder. In Nilgiris, 4.40 lakh kg per month; In Dharmapuri, 9.20 lakh kg of sewage is required.

The central government has declared this year as the year for small grains.
Even though the Tamil Nadu government took steps to procure more water, it was not available in sufficient quantity.

On behalf of the Central Food Department, a meeting of state food department officials was held in Delhi.

Cooperative Department Secretary Radhakrishnan, who participated on behalf of Tamil Nadu, urged the Central Food Department officials to purchase small grains through the Food Corporation of India.

On behalf of the Food Corporation of India, Radhakrishnan has urged the central authorities to release the outstanding amount of subsidy for the conversion of paddy purchased by the Tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Trading Corporation into rice.
