Most of the 90’s kids are currently between the ages of 25-32. The 90’s know more than the 2K’s how telecom prepaid service gradually grew and peaked. Android phones started getting cheaper after 2010. After this companies like Samsung and Sony started selling cheap Android phones.

As a result, Android phones, which were used only by the rich till then, have crept into the hands of the Indian middle class since 2010. Using online apps on Android phones required more data. There was a time when telecom service providers like Airtel, Aircel, BSNL, Idea, Docomo offered one GB of data per month. During 2013-14 we used to use this one GB data for a whole month.

We use data-hungry apps like YouTube only on office Wi-Fi and enjoy downloading videos. We will only use certain apps like WhatsApp, Hike, Facebook Lite, Twitter which do not consume much data. We will try to extend the data till the end of the month by playing only offline games.

But the arrival of Jio SIM revolutionized the telecom industry. When Mukesh Ambani announced that 1 GB data per month went away, it was 1 GB data per day, and rival companies went into a frenzy. Realizing that if we want to be in the business, we also have to give one GB of data per day, the competing companies have provided data wise. All the users used one GB of data in a day to watch their ideal YouTube videos.

Thus the data which was one GB per day became two GB, two GB became three GB, and today even three GB data is not enough. Knowing this, the Jio company increased the service charges. We who are addicted to high speed data are also paying Jio’s data charges without any other option.

Apple followed a similar business strategy in the 2000s. Apple introduced the phone, smart watch, tablet, laptop, Airpod, MP-3 player etc. and made consumers buy Apple electronic products. Then Apple created the ecosystem and offered that service for free. Apple has introduced a payment service to EcoSystem for users who have become addicted to Apple products. Today Apple lovers are paying this fee as well.
