The people of Willivakkam fear that the poisonous gas coming out of the Koovam Canal, which is not closed, will cause physical harm. Also, household appliances are also lamented as perishable.

Anna Nagar Mandal, 95th Ward Villivakam, Agathiyar Nagar. Thousands of people live in the many streets here.

In this area, a small Koovam canal runs in the open from Badi towards ICF.

It is said that chemical wastes from private industries running in the area are mixed in this canal. Due to this, the residents of the area are alleging that they are suffering from various physical ailments due to the gas coming out of the Koovam canal passing through the residences.

Regarding this, the people of Agathiyar Nagar said:

The gas coming out of this channel leading to Badi – ICF is very foul smelling.

After several years of demand, the Koovam Canal, which runs through Agathiyar Nagar area, was planned to be covered.

Accordingly, only half of the canals were closed. As the rest of the spaces are not closed, the gas that escapes from time to time causes bodily harm including vomiting.

Especially the residents of ‘O’ Block area here suffer from mysterious fevers including ‘Dengue’ throughout the year.

Many children are still vulnerable. In some children, lung-related problems have also increased.

Apart from this, household appliances like refrigerators, two-wheelers etc. get burnt and get damaged.

Despite complaining to the authorities several times, no action was taken. MLA-Councillors who make promises only during every election are of no use.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should pay special attention and order the concerned authorities to investigate whether the cow is causing physical harm or any other reason.
