Coimbatore: As there are four days to the end of the current financial year, including today, property tax collection has been intensified in the Coimbatore Corporation. For those who are in arrears for a long time, the water connection will be disconnected.

As property tax, a target of Rs 520.59 crore has been set for collection of Rs 378.67 crore in the current financial year, against Rs 141.92 crore in previous years.

A total of Rs 389.32 crore has been collected till last night. Out of this, Rs.58.78 crore has been collected in arrears.

Including today, there are four days left for the end of the current financial year. By then, Rs 131.27 crore should be collected. Out of this, Rs.48.13 crore should be collected in the current financial year. Hence, tax collection has been accelerated.

The revenue department is going ward wise. Those who have not paid taxes for a long time are identified and the work of disconnecting the drinking water connection is also carried out.

In West Zone alone, 35 levies were found to be unpaid for a long period of time to the tune of Rs 4 lakh; 17 drinking water connections were disconnected. After that, Rs.1.92 lakh was collected. 6 taxpayers have paid the dues in full. Some have paid a portion. As three people have not yet paid the amount, the corporation officials are deliberating on the next course of action.
