Mettur: Regarding drinking water, the councilors insisted on canceling the resolution passed by the President arbitrarily. As a result, the chairperson left the meeting, and 22 councilors petitioned the commissioner to cancel the decision.
There are 30 councilors in Mettur Municipality, DMK – 20, ADMK – 5, VC – 1, Independent – 4. Chandra from DMK is the president and Kashi Viswanathan is the vice president.
In the last Dec. 23 meeting, all the councilors canceled the resolution by denying permission to the Chennai company that requested a contract for the work of preparing a project report to meet drinking water needs in Mettur. But unbeknownst to the councillors, President Chandra took a decision on his own and sent that the resolution was passed.
In this case, the councilor meeting was held yesterday under the leadership of Chandra. The councilors insisted on canceling the arbitrary resolution. Chandra left without consenting. The meeting was canceled due to this. Subsequently, 22 councilors signed a petition and presented it to Commissioner Bhuvaneswaran saying that ‘the resolution passed by the President should be cancelled’.
