by time news
CHENNAI- As the Tamil Nadu budget has stated that a special agency will be created to make Tamil Nadu a green state, the status of ‘DETA’, which is already carrying out those tasks, is being questioned.

The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) was established in 1984.

TEDA is working to create awareness among people about renewable energy including wind power and solar energy.

Moreover, the central government has also done the work of getting subsidy for the beneficiaries of setting up Suryashakti power plant in Tamil Nadu. At present, the Central Government directly disburses the subsidy amount into the beneficiary’s bank account.

Up to 50 people are permanently employed in this company headed by an IAS officer. 31 Assistant Engineers, 17 Junior Assistants, who were working on temporary basis, were recently transferred to the Electricity Board.

In this context, it has been said in the budget that the government will create a special agency to make Tamil Nadu a green state so that the share of renewable electricity in the total power generation by 2030 is more than 50 percent.

In this regard, Finance Department Secretary Muruganandam said:

Teda’s job scope is limited. Not even overstaffed; Its function is also short.

Whereas, in green electricity, Tamil Nadu is the most important resource-rich state. Therefore, a special agency is to be set up under the Department of Energy to give special attention to it. With that company, TEDA can be merged; The Department of Energy will take a decision on that.

This is what he said.
