While it was announced that the Tamil Nadu government will bear the fees of government school students who get admission in higher educational institutions like IITs, now an ordinance has been issued to that effect.

Government school students from 6th to 12th standard who get admission in reputed institutes of higher learning like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Science (IISC), All India Institute of Medicine (AIIMS) towards their tuition fee. It was announced in the Tamil Nadu budget that the government will bear the entire amount. Accordingly, an ordinance has been issued laying down the conditions and norms related to the state government providing the full amount for the students’ educational expenses.

In this regard, in the order issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu, “To avail the benefits under this scheme, students who have got admission in reputed higher education institutes like Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, etc. should have attended government schools from 6th to 12th standard.

The students who have been admitted in the said institutions of higher learning should go and apply in the office of their own district governor along with the marks list obtained in the entrance examination, admission order, bonafide certificate issued by the head of the ‘educational’ institution and all the fees charged by the educational institutions.

The District Governor should check all the certificates of the applied students and send a proposal to the Directorate of Technical Education along with the details of the total expenditure for the study of the students admitted in the said higher education institutions.

The Directorate of Technical Education should send a proposal to the Government after examining the recommendation received from the above concerned District Head, calculating the expenditure for higher education and issuing an appropriate fund allocation order.

To encourage students studying in government schools to study in higher education institutions without caste discrimination and without taking into account the annual income, the government will issue an order after examining the details of the students, the recommendation of the district governor and the opinion of the Directorate of Technical Education, giving administrative approval for the amount of expenditure for four years in the first year itself, and approving the expenditure for the first year. . The Commissioner of Technical Education may issue the expenditure for each year after obtaining the proposal for subsequent years from the District Collector.

For government school students who get admission under 7.5% special quota, their expenses are paid annually through Electronic Service (ECS) to their educational institution. In this way also, instead of receiving a check for the cost of education from each student and disbursing it to the concerned student through the District Magistrate, the amount entrusted by the Technical Education Commissioner will be disbursed directly to the concerned student’s bank account through Electronic Service (ECS).

An Onine Portal will be established by the Technical Education Directorate for better implementation of the scheme and for speedy completion of verification and transparent implementation.
