As the war between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, the Central and State Governments are taking serious steps to rescue Indian students studying there. Of these, many students have been rescued and are returning home. Accordingly, some students, including Ravichandran’s son Harish (age 22) and Selvam’s son Arun (22) from Palani Neykkarapatti, who were stranded in Ukraine, returned home yesterday. When Harish and Arun came to Neykkarapatti, their parents greeted them with tears in their eyes.

Then the students say, me and Arun and friends are staying in Kiev and studying 5th year of medicine. Due to the war in Ukraine we took refuge in bunkers. We were terrified as the war lasted for more than a week. We then contacted the Indian Embassy one way or another. They rescued us and brought us home by plane. They said we encountered various difficulties before crossing the border into Ukraine.

Similarly, a medical student named Viani, daughter of Sakayam from Kodaikanal Bakiyapuram area also returned home from Ukraine. When he came to Kodaikanal, his parents welcomed him with tears of joy. Also, Mayor Sellathurai, Deputy Mayor Mayakkannan and relatives of the student gave an enthusiastic welcome to Viani who was taking Aarti and giving her a bouquet. Viani later said, “I thank the Central and State Governments for taking me home safely. He also said that all Tamil Nadu students trapped in Ukraine should be rescued immediately.
