Prize distribution of BPL is going on. As per rules, the captain speaks to the conductor alone before receiving the champion trophy. But Fortune Barisal captain Tamim Iqbal called Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad on stage.
All these three have won the BPL title for Fortune Barisal. Tamim won his first title as captain but Mushfiq and Mahmudullah got their first taste of BPL title. The captain painted the big day of these two cricket stars of the country with more light.
At the press conference after the championship celebrations, Tamim said that he wanted to win the BPL trophy for teammates Mushfiq and Mahmudullah. Tamim did not want the BPL title to remain elusive despite many achievements.
Tamim said, ‘Obviously winning any title is great. But this time there was a slightly different reason. Because, in our team there were some such people like Miraj among the youngsters, Soumya or Riyad Bhai among the experienced, Mushfiq – they have been representing the country for a long time. But they never got this (BPL) trophy. So I had a desire of my own, if Allah gives us, then I will sacrifice them.’
Barisal became champions for the first time after defeating four-time champions Comilla Victorians in the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla. Before this, Barisal never saw the trophy after playing the final twice against Comilla. Tamim Iqbal’s team has taken revenge this time. After winning the toss, Comilla stopped at 154 runs. Barisal won by 6 wickets chasing.
Explaining the reason for dedicating the trophy to Mushfiq and Mahmudullah, the Barisal captain said, Miraj can win the trophy, but Mushfiq’s age is not like other young cricketers, ‘Miraj-Taizul-Soumya can get many trophies. I don’t know, Riyad bhai and Mushfiq bhai, they will continue to perform the way they are performing, but not like others.’
Tamim made an important contribution to Barisal’s championship by scoring 492 runs. He won the tournament best award. Mushfiqur scored 380 runs. At the start of the BPL, many made fun of Mushfiq-Mahmudullah teaming up. It was also joked about as a ‘group of old men’. In the end, experience won out. They have shown that they are the best.
Did Tamim himself play to answer someone? Tamim’s candid reply, ‘I couldn’t have played like this if I had thought to answer. I didn’t think I had to reply.
