I had the pleasure of being at Tamir’s show, last night at Zappa in the park. An evening that was a combination of original songs and cover songs, some remembered from the next star, but with a common denominator, a heavenly voice, pure talent, which actually means the man can sing a phone book and it will still be an elite genre, not to mention a hit.
In terms of atmosphere, you will not find more attractive places to perform than Zappa in the Yarkon. The organizers did a great job arranging the complex in Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, which is reminiscent of an open ballroom, even a wedding, just the kind I would be happy to be invited to. The perfect weather of early summer, along with the feeling of being in the open air, away from the urban atmosphere of the city center, gave the perfect atmosphere for Tamir’s performance, with strong vibes of jazz and blues in the air, soul in the heart of Tel Aviv.
Greenberg is a lift, and you feel it right away. Sometimes it’s easy to get confused if you hear a live performance or a playback of a disc, it’s so accurate and sharp. Accompanied by a serious orchestra, which includes wind instruments, as befits the genre, it will not stop moving or bouncing, and in any case you will come out with some feeling, you will not remain indifferent.

What was in the show itself? Everything, whatever you want. Whether you are a heavy fan and know all of Greenberg’s original songs, or fans of the next star who want to see what all the fuss is about, no one has come out disappointed. Whether it’s the rendition of his original song “Underwater”, or the more famous covers he made like “SUNNY J”, “FIX YOU” by Coldplay, and even a crazy rendition of Madonna’s “LIKE A PRAYER”, everyone got their own Greenberg dose , And no one complained. I personally think each of the covers performed surpasses the original in some measure, but it’s a matter of taste. In any case, there is no doubt that Tamir sews every song he performs to his measurements, and puts into execution his measurements, his unique personality, and most importantly makes him his own, in his own way.
One of the highlights of the evening was about ten Valerie Butter, Greenberg’s partner in his season at Next Star, took to the stage to sing the duo’s successful duet from that season, “Hallelujah,” a performance that left no one in the seat, and everyone got up to see that magical moment.
Throughout the show Greenberg’s energies were catchy and mesmerizing. He takes care to talk to the audience, to tell about his experiences, the path from anonymity to the next planet, and he takes care to remind the audience how important they are to him, and that’s important. It’s really hard not to look at that talent on stage and not feel anything. His music moves the body, but also the soul. It’s so hard to find real musicians nowadays who do jazz and blues, certainly not in the Holy Land, but Greenberg is special, a unique phenomenon – his voice is an instrument no less than the guitar or bass guitar, and he plays that voice perfectly. The only criticism I have of that wonderful evening at the Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv is that it ends too quickly, but there is always the next show.
