The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with electricity connection number till December 31.

Tamil Nadu has more than 3 crore electricity connections. Electricity usage is calculated once every 2 months and electricity bill is paid directly through website and apps. In this case, the Tamil Nadu government announced that Aadhaar number should be linked with the electricity connection number.

The government announced that Aadhaar number can be linked with electricity connection either directly at the electricity board offices or online.

For this purpose, special counters have been set up in the electricity board divisional offices across Tamil Nadu to link the electricity connection number with Aadhaar number. This camp is Dec. Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji has announced that it will be held till 31st.

Also some private computer centers are providing this service. In this case, it is said that the owners of private computer centers in Abhiram, Ramanathapuram district are using this to their advantage and charging higher fees.

According to social activists, there are more than 150 villages in and around Abhiram. Following the order to link Aadhaar with electricity connection number, taking advantage of this, individuals who have computer centers in Abhram charge additional fees of Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.150 from poor people for linking Aadhaar per electricity connection number.

They demanded that the authorities should monitor this and take action against those who charge extra.
