Mr. Yassin Halhoul was appointed Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Tangier, with the mission of promoting relations between Switzerland and the Kingdom and providing assistance, if necessary, to Swiss nationals in the two regions.
Speaking on this occasion, the Swiss Ambassador to Morocco, Guillaume Scheurer, underlined the excellent relations between Morocco and Switzerland, specifying that his country now has four honorary consulates in the Kingdom (Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier).
“It is a great moment for Switzerland to strengthen its presence in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and Oriental regions, with a view to promoting economic relations between the two countries and supporting Swiss companies established in these regions”, he noted, stressing that Switzerland represents an important partner for Morocco on the political and diplomatic level, but also on the economic level.
The diplomat recalled that Switzerland, with around sixty companies active in Morocco, is in the top 10 best investors in the Kingdom, noting that trade between the two countries broke a record in 2022, reaching approximately 8.6 billion dirhams, an increase of 18.9% compared to 2021.
He affirmed that this new consulate will help strengthen the Swiss presence in Morocco and promote relations between the two countries.
For his part, Mr. Halhoul emphasized the importance of economic relations between Switzerland and Morocco, affirming his commitment to work tirelessly to strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries and to further promote bilateral cooperation.
This ceremony was also an opportunity to highlight the remarkable development dynamics experienced by the Northern and Oriental regions, thanks to all-out projects and large-scale economic programs.
